Matt McDermott, MA, LMHC

Welcome! Here is a bit of information about me as a therapist;

I am trained as an ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider, and specialize in adults, teens and couples with ADHD, AuDHD, and Autism, who are trying to navigate through the world. Through both lived experience being diagnosed with ADHD myself, and professional training, I can help you navigate a world built for neurotypical people.

Most therapy tries to “fix” things that come with ADHD and Autism, so that you mask more and seem more “normal”. I provide neurodivergent affirming care. I focus on;

  • Strengths-Based Strategies: I work with you to find strategies that work for you, uniquely, not a one-shoe-fits-all method

  • Living Authentically: Your neurodivergence shouldn't be silenced, it should be celebrated and I want to make that experience positive and sustainable for you

  • Solutions Focused: I recognize sometimes short term problems don’t need long term solutions. I focus on helping you with what you need in the moment to improve your quality of life.

If you are someone who is just learning about their neurodivergence, you’ve known about it for a long time, or possibly you suspect you might be neurodivergent, this might be a good fit for you! I can help you address challenges and begin to shape your life in a way that makes sense to you, and address the goals you are looking to meet.

The way I conduct therapy sessions is meant to be a collaborative approach between me and you, the client. I want this experience to be one where you feel that you have agency, and we are working together to achieve your goals. You are the expert on your own life and I want that expertise to be present in our sessions. I welcome feedback, and adjust our sessions based on your needs. This might look different from session to session but it centers around a relational approach to therapy.

Therapy is never a one stop shop, and many of my clients find multiple types of interventions help the best, however my goal is to make the therapeutic experience as beneficial to you as possible. Please feel free to reach out with any questions I would be happy to answer for you!

My Background

I have been in the mental health field since 2016, working in a crisis center for at-risk youth, youth in the foster care system and those going through the criminal justice process. During this job I found my passion for therapy and pursued a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

During grad school, I found out that I myself had ADHD and was neurodivergent. This information changed the way I viewed my life, my previous challenges in academic and social settings, and allowed me to continue to mold my understanding of myself to best work with my neurodivergence, not against it.

Upon graduating with my degree, I worked at a group practice where I learned more about the therapeutic process and completed my post graduate hours to become independently licensed.

In 2021, upon starting Reflections, I continued to work towards external education and trainings in the neurodivergent issues and to this day stay focused on understanding the latest information in the field to best serve you.

In my free time, I have a myriad of hobbies, such as cooking, baking or woodworking (and the occasional reddit deep dive) and in all things I am accompanied by my dog and best friend, Paloma.

My fees for session are $140 for Individual and $160 for couples, I take Premera, Lifewise and Regence Insurance.
